Troy City Council Candidates 2013

Image via mlive.com
The deadline to file as a candidate for Troy City Council was today (August 13, 2013) at 4:00 pm. Three City Council seats are up for election this year. As I've mentioned previously, Councilwoman Maureen McGinnis has already announced that she won't run for re-election.

Thanks to some posts by Phillip Kwik on Twitter, we have a good idea who the candidates will be in this year's election.

Councilmembers Wade Fleming and Ed Pennington have filed to run for re-election.

Here are the non-incumbent candidates:
Olimpiu Apahidean Jr
Janice Daniels (former Troy Mayor)
Steve Gottlieb
Ellen Hodorek
Thomas E. Kuhn
Rodger Walters
Scott Welborn
Jim Werpetinski
Neil Yashinsky
That's right. One year after being recalled from the Mayor's office, Janice Daniels is running for City Council! With a quick look at the list of candidates, I'd have to say that Janice has a good chance at winning election to the Troy City Council in November. Of course, candidates still have a few more days to withdraw their names from the ballot.

Should be an interesting election. If Janice Daniels returns to the City Council, politics in Troy City government will surely be a lot more "lively."

  1. Sadly, with three spots open, her name recognition is probably going to get her enough votes to sneak in. It's a shame because things have been moving in a positive direction since she has been gone. I really appreciate the professionalism that city council has displayed since her exit. Meetings go by fast and work is getting done without the extracurricular grandstanding. It's been nice.

I am choosing to focus on the other candidates on the list that are focused on Troy and not increasing their political "movement". There are 10 other names on this list and I believe they are the ones that deserve our attention as real candidates.

  2. CC, specifically, what do you mean by a "positive" direction? Sounds like you're implying that Janice Daniels was a negative person. I'll tell you what's sad, it's the belief that being against perversion and the promotion thereof makes you "negative". Shows you how far down the "Greco-Roman Empire Slippery Slope" we've gone.

While I'll admit, her approach was her weakest ally, I place much blame on her conservative colleagues who squandered opportunity after opportunity to properly indoctrinate her on matters of parliamentary procedure, communication style, etc. Reminds me of the bad rap Senator Cruz is getting from the Senate RINOs.

No, I believe it's her ideology that abrades you and you're conveniently using her persona as an excuse. At least be honest about that. We've replaced a mayor who was being true to her campaign promises, with one who is still under the pall of suspicion for an internal theft of over $40K and was only one of two possible "people of interest" who refused to take a lie detector test. I don't care how well you sugar coat a piece of fecal material to look like a delicious M&M candy. Once you get past the sugar coating, you have a "non-partisan" charismatic ex-police officer whose style made Janice Daniels look like Dale Carnegie. He was only championing popular [and amoral] values and THAT's why he got away with behavior that buried Janice Daniel's mayoral career this time around. BTW, in case you have doo-doo in your ears, "non-partisan" is code speak for "flaming left-wing liberal". I call Mr. Mayor this by his actions, not by his words. At least you knew from which direction Janice Daniels was coming.
