Welcoming a Syrian Refugee to Troy

By now, you've probably read the information that is linked in the Twitter post displayed below.
As reported by The Detroit News, President Obama reached out on Facebook last week to welcome the unidentified Syrian scientist who recently learned he will be resettled here in Troy, MI.

I'm sure this future Troy resident will be an asset to our community in the years to come.

Thanksgiving Tradition Updated in 2015

My son Alex and I started a new Thanksgiving tradition in 2011. That was running in the Detroit Turkey Trot. In fact, we ran in it for 4 straight years. This year we modified that tradition by running in the inaugural Troy Mighty Gobbler 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk sponsored by Lutheran Church of the Master. (Click here for their Facebook page.)

This year, Mary Ellyn and Jill joined us by participating in the 1 Mile Run/Walk.

3rd place medal in my
age group for men.

It was a well-run race and it was nice avoiding the traffic and the crowds that are part of the Detroit Turkey Trot. We're looking forward to participating next year.

Troy Trail and Pathway Project "Reboot"

That was quick! I posted on Sunday (11/22/15) that the Troy Trail and Pathway Project was delayed. Now it appears that the delay was only temporary. Hooray!

Click here to view/print details about these new developments.

Thank you to the City staff and the City Council for moving forward on this project. I'm looking forward to riding my bicycle on the new pathway when it's completed within the next few years!

Below you can see the projected route of the trail/pathway.
