Thanksgiving Tradition Updated in 2015

My son Alex and I started a new Thanksgiving tradition in 2011. That was running in the Detroit Turkey Trot. In fact, we ran in it for 4 straight years. This year we modified that tradition by running in the inaugural Troy Mighty Gobbler 5K and 1 Mile Run/Walk sponsored by Lutheran Church of the Master. (Click here for their Facebook page.)

This year, Mary Ellyn and Jill joined us by participating in the 1 Mile Run/Walk.

3rd place medal in my
age group for men.

It was a well-run race and it was nice avoiding the traffic and the crowds that are part of the Detroit Turkey Trot. We're looking forward to participating next year.

Troy Trail and Pathway Project "Reboot"

That was quick! I posted on Sunday (11/22/15) that the Troy Trail and Pathway Project was delayed. Now it appears that the delay was only temporary. Hooray!

Click here to view/print details about these new developments.

Thank you to the City staff and the City Council for moving forward on this project. I'm looking forward to riding my bicycle on the new pathway when it's completed within the next few years!

Below you can see the projected route of the trail/pathway.

Troy Trail and Pathway Project Delayed

Photo from 8/20/15 Troy Trail &
Pathway Project public meeting
11/24/15 UPDATE: On 11/23/15, the Troy City Council voted to move forward with the project. Click here for more details.

In the words of the Troy Times, it's "back to the drawing board" for the proposed nonmotorized trail and pathway system that would connect the Clinton River Trail in Auburn Hills to the Troy Civic Center.

Click here to read/print the Troy Times 11/17/15 online article.

I don't believe I'm alone in being disappointed by the delay. But, I hope the City Council and staff continue on with an alternative plan that doesn't adversely affect residents near the proposed route.

City staff has posted the video recording of the 11/9/15 joint Troy City Council and Planning Commission meeting to YouTube where this topic was discussed. At the bottom of this post is the video.
