Benne on Religion and Politics - Chapter 4

Sorry about not posting on a more regular basis. My new job (at the same credit union) requires me to be at work until 6 pm so I'm finding it harder to post on a regular basis.

I thought I would post a good quote I found in Chapter 4 of the book, Good and Bad Ways to Think about Religion and Politics by Dr. Robert D. Benne. Chapter 4 of Benne's book is "Critical Engagement: Moving From Core to Public Policy."

From page 53...
As St. Paul says in Romans 13, government has been instituted by God to support good conduct while punishing the bad. The governor is the "servant for your good" (13:4). Christians not only must pay taxes; they can also participate vigorously in government. They can rightly expect and press government to give protection to its citizens from internal and external threats, to work for international order and justice commensurate with the power that it possesses, to encourage and monitor wisely a vibrant economy, to forge reasonable policies to conserve our habitat, to pursue justice for all (which includes safeguarding freedoms as well as providing an adequate safety net for those unable to care for themselves), and to exhibit and support humane values.

Another Three Years on the Troy ZBA

Thanks to the Troy City Council for their action on 4/14/14 re-appointing me to the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA). It's a great privilege to continue serving the people of Troy - even in this small way.

Congratulations to Allen Kneale who was also re-appointed by City Council on 4/14/14 to the Troy ZBA.

Our terms run until 2017.

Thanks Athens Athletic Boosters and Athens PTO

Thank you to the Troy Athens Athletic Boosters and the Troy Athens PTO. Last Thursday each of them presented our son with grants so that he can attend a Cross Country camp this summer.

For more information on these two fine organizations, read the information below and/or click on the links...
  • The Athens Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is comprised of parents, teachers and administrators who work together to raise funds, provide volunteers, and organize events. We provide volunteers and financial support for all kinds of events including student clubs and activities, All Night Party, Prom, and much more. Students whose families are members may apply for senior and underclassmen scholarships, and we provide teacher members with enrichment grants. Your PTO gave over $25,000 in the 2012/2013 school year for student enrichment.
