Check Troy If You're Looking for Consolidated Services

A Detroit News 8/1/13 editorial says, "Metro Detroit communities should consolidate more municipal service." Here's their opening statement...
The idea of consolidating municipal services is becoming more widespread in Metro Detroit, with four cities recently agreeing to partner on emergency dispatch services. That’s a good move as budgets get tighter. Consolidation should be accelerated because it saves taxpayers money and can improve the quality of services.
Fortunately, I reside in a Metro Detroit community that has been working with adjoining cities in the pursuit of service consolidation. Too bad the Detroit News didn't call the Troy City Manager or Mayor to find out what they've been doing over the past few years.

Here are just a couple of examples:
  • Troy’s Fleet Division contracts with 9 neighboring communities and other government agencies to maintain and service their vehicles. Troy also leases vehicles to a neighboring community which brings in revenue.
  • Troy's Police Department has consolidated Dispatch and Jail Services with the City of Clawson.
