Labor and Vocation Day 2012

Happy Labor Day! Even though I vote Republican 99.9% of the time, I'm still appreciative of the benefits that I received through my parents' membership in labor unions. When my Mom worked for Michigan Bell, she was a member of the Communication Workers of America. During part of my Dad's time at Michigan State University, he was a member of AFSCME.

I also like Dr. Gene Edward Veith's suggestion that we celebrate today as Vocation Day.

Veith says...
Vocation is more than just the notion that you can do your work to the glory of God. It has to do not only with how we make our living–though it includes that–but also with our life in our families, our churches, and our cultures. The doctrine of vocation is filled with specific details and practical guidance. It is, in short, the theology of the Christian life.
Be sure to check Dr. Veith's article on the subject of vocation in Modern Reformation.
