Dane Slater Jumps Into Troy Mayoral Race

Mayor Slater (via the City
of Troy website)
It now appears that we'll have a Slater vs. Knollenberg race for Mayor of Troy. Yesterday I posted that Marty Knollenberg filed to run for Mayor in the May 2013 special election. The candidacy of incumbent Mayor Dane Slater is a bit of a surprise because he was quoted in the January 14, 2013 Troy-Somerset Gazette as saying,“I don’t have any intention of continuing as mayor.”

According to a story in the January 25, 2013 Detroit News...
Slater, who has said publicly he was not interested in running for mayor, says he changed his mind after learning of Knollenberg's intention to run. "Quite frankly, when someone filed that was not nonpartisan, I felt the need to join the race," he said Friday. "Also, I've been getting a lot of calls from people who are very close to me, and when certain people asked me to reconsider my position, I thought I should do it."
Should be a very interesting special election facing the voters.
